One of my favorite classes at UVA! Prof. RK clearly cares about you learning the material but also about you as a person. She keeps the classes engaging without too much reading or busy work. Material feels very applicable to daily life and isn't too hard. Definitely would recommend to anyone in Psych.

I loved this class! The classroom environment was one of the best I've experienced--- it felt like everyone was engaged and participating. Lectures + discussion were interesting and engaging. I learned so much about how kids learn and how we can structure schools to facilitate that learning. Professor RK is incredibly knowledgeable and kind; she makes this class what it is.

Fair amount of work but it's not busy work nor is it too much. Totally would recommend!!! Wish I could take it again.

This was one of the most rewarding classes I’ve taken at UVA. Professor Rimm-Kaufman is an amazing instructor. She is clear, engaging, and very understanding. She genuinely cares about her students’ learning, fosters a respectful, collaborative classroom, and is approachable and supportive outside of class.

The workload is moderate but manageable. Each week includes readings, a short prework assignment, and a quiz, which keeps you on track without a midterm. Expect around 4 hours of reading per week. The final exam is in two parts (essay take-home and in-class multiple choice), and the preparation guides double as study guides, which makes reviewing much easier. Difficulty is about a 3/5, but the structure and support make it very doable. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this course and professor.

Intro to Educational Psychology is pretty interesting, but lecture wise I never found anything interesting. Dr. RK is super nice, but very particular in her grading. She assigns weekly pre-work and quizzes which are all open note, but can take a lot of time. Has a 2 Part final that is closed note and can be difficult and a paper as well. I suggest if taking this class, have an easy load of classes. #tCFF23

This class consisted of weekly quizzes that were open book but were application base in your own life which helps facilitate meaningful learning. I found some units very interesting and others sort of boring. I honestly found it hard to follow along with lectures and learned more from small group discussion and the textbook. You have to do pre-work - she makes sure you do the reading assignments to be prepared for class. Also there are 4 discussions throughout the semester which are more reading and talking about topics that may relate to the class material. There is a final semester paper where you have 3 different options to choose from. There is a cumulative final at the end of the semester that is closed book which was odd because everything prior was open book. Not a bad class overall. Definitely have to do a fair amount of work but you learn how teachers teach us.

Such an amazing course! Even with it being virtual, I gained so much from it. Most weeks were filled with in-depth conversations and really interesting material. Personally, I found the most interesting content to be in the latter half of the class. At the beginning of the semester, you're assigned a group of you and 3-4 others, and that is who you will do a great deal of discussing with throughout the semester. Work-wise, you have weekly open note quizzes, a course long paper on a topic of your choosing, and an open note final. Prof Rimm-Kaufman is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Her office hours are very helpful.
