Mick is a really nice guy who is very passionate about market research, but the class is pretty dry. While we learned a lot about the concepts of market research, I think the class is incredibly limited by only using technology like once the whole semester to do a few graphs on excel for the project. This would also make the class for interesting/hands-on. Personally I couldn't pay attention in this class to save my life but the class isn't difficult. He gives you exactly what you need to know for midterms and final and then if you do a good group project you'll be fine. Make sure to talk at least once a class for participation though, I had a string of probably 4 weeks where I was completely zoned out and it probably cost me the solid A.
I loved Professor Mick! Although the material is pretty dry (basically a review of the Marketing and Quantitative Analysis modules of the ICE curriculum), the course itself was easy and should be a GPA booster for anyone interested in concentrating in Marketing or in need of a COMM elective. Your grade is based off of class participation, a group project, the midterm exam, and the final exam. You have the option of writing a research paper in lieu of either the midterm or final exam. Professor Mick really cares about his students and is very knowledgeable on the more conceptual aspects of marketing research. After I missed a couple of classes because I was sick, Professor Mick reached out to me updating me on what I missed, instructing me on how to prepare for the next class, and also offering me the opportunity to reschedule the upcoming midterm (which I didn't take bc the exams are easy af since Professor Mick gives you a study guide to prepare with). Professor Mick also may seem intimidating the first couple of days, but his bark is worse than his bite. He has a dry sense of humor (which made for some pretty funny moments in lecture), and is really approachable and accessible during office hours. Highly recommend taking COMM 3330 with Mick!
Professor Mick is an absolute sweetheart! It is so evident how much he cares about each student's well being. But since the most recent review, he has changed the structure of the class completely.
Current structure:
1) Market research term paper on a topic of your choosing (62.5%)
2) 7 exercises (26.5%)
3) participation (10%)
Personally, I was initially intimidated by the term paper being such a large percentage of the grade, but it was really interesting getting to research a topic of my choice and learning much more about it. Professor Mick also gave several paragraphs of positive and constructive feedback on the paper which I really appreciated and will implement in papers going forward. If you're someone who prefers tests over papers, though, this class may not be for you, but if you prefer papers and a focus on participation and completion grades over tests/quizzes, you will definitely like the structure of this class. I would definitely recommend! #tCFS24
