Avoid this class like the plague. Bateman spends lectures talking about himself rather than narrowing down the 700 pages of incomprehensible blabber he calls a textbook. It's an easy enough A- if you want to spend your time putting your fingers through a meatgrinder to memorize stupid buzzwords to recite on a poorly written test.
It's really not a bad *class*, but the tests are ridiculous. He looks for extremely picky points from both the book and what he says in class, and is not interested in how well you know the big ideas. This class is almost purely based on how well you can memorize to regurgitate - the tests are NOT multiple choice so if you don't know the 5 components of relational leadership off the top of your head, you're up the creek. And don't think synonyms are going to help you out either - you have to get the exact words word-for-word. There are no pity points. He seems like a nice enough guy, and is really encouraging in lecture, but he'll pull a fast one on you come exam time. Also, he claims to have curved, but I was 1% away from the regular cutoff for the next grade and didn't go up so if he curved it must have been 1/2000th of a percent.
Bateman is a really nice and informed professor who genuinely cares about the subject! We had some really interesting guest speakers and got to watch films during some of the classes. The material seems somewhat straightforward but it is actually very relevant to a lot of the concepts covered in McIntire classes during 3rd and 4th year #tcf2016
Fairly easy and laidback class. Professor Bateman often would go off on random tangents. He really wants to get to know the students, and wants to go to lunch and coffee with everyone. Slim to no notes need to be taken in class. He will tell you what is important to know. 2 tests and a paper. Tests were some what difficult if you didn't read the textbook but the paper was easy and he pretty much tells everyone if you try you will get an A.
