Bass keeps this class very entertaining, I looked forward to it twice a week. There's not much work besides doing the actual negotiations, which are kind of pain to schedule but since its the only work there's not much to complain about. Discussions are engaging and Bass can be funny. I recommend it to all comm students
Really interesting class. Two negotiations to do per week. One that you need to do right after class since you need to submit it for the next day at 11am. And the other one to do over the weekend. Negotiations are interesting and you will learn what kind of negotiator you are, how you react in certain situations etc. Bass is a really great guy with a lot of experience, but he often tends to repeat the same stories and to talk about his experience in Japan. Final is a paper that you need to write about a negotiation so pretty easy. Not difficult to get an A- or A in this class.
Worst class I have taken at UVa. You learn more about negotiating in 3rd year ICE, and this class is a total waste of time. Professor Bass rambles on about random stories from his days working and negotiating, and then cold calls individual students and makes them look stupid for not knowing exactly what he wants them to say. Also, he frequently espouses borderline sexist comments about women and girls (one class, he went on a 20 minute rant about how girls always ask their parents for money). Worst class ever.
