This class is so engaging and fun. Professor Meyer is a great lecturer and clearly really cares about the topic. If you are at all interested in the Romans you should definitely take this course, it gives such a good background for any study of Roman culture. Meyer also does a great job of linking the events of Rome to the modern day which makes the course even more entertaining. She uses lots of games and class-wide activities to engage with the class too. I made some good friends in this course.
It isn't super difficult but it is a LOT of reading. Like even just skimming the reading will put you at 50ish pages a week. If you do that the course is challenging but not too difficult. She's also a really generous grader and will help you out if your grade needs a boost as long as you participate. Genuinely one of the best classes I've ever taken at UVA and I'm not even a history major.

The best course at UVA. If you have any interest in one of the most turbulent periods of Roman history and are prepared to work, it is an incredibly rewarding and uniquely entertaining experience (as you will come to learn).
