Ms. Pisano is great at explaining the material quickly and concisely. You are expected to come into class having read the and with a basic understanding of the material, so a large portion of class is spent doing practice problems in a group and refining your understanding of the material, which I thought was very helpful. Overall, one of the best math experience I've had. Would recommend.
Professor Pisano was great! I did not have credit for Calc 1 and had never taken Calc 2 in high school, but I did fine.
Homework: There were short pre-homeworks with tutorial problems that are due on the morning before you learn about that section, and then a couple longer homeworks every week. It was very doable, and she was extremely helpful during office hours.
Classtime: We did group worksheets almost every class after she taught the section, which I liked because it solidified what we were learning.
Overall: Prof. Pisano wants you to succeed in this class, and if you do the work you will.
Not too bad. She doesn't have very much personality when teaching, but Pisano explains things clearly and is fair. The class begins with a powerpoint lecture that has clicker questions and then you do a worksheet with your assigned group. Homework is on WebAssign, there's usually a relatively short pre-homework due for every class and 2-3 longer assignments due on Wednesday nights, sometimes these longer assignments took a while because the problems were more difficult than the ones we did in class. Overall I would say it's a pretty relaxed and fair class as long as you show up, pay attention, and dedicate time to doing homework outside of class & studying before exams.
I don't understand where everyone is coming from. I just got out of Pisano's class and it was by far the worst course I've taken. The problems in the power points which the class solves together are nowhere near the level of complexity on the homeworks or the tests. At first glance, the test seems somewhat fair, but the rubric is rigorous that a small error can cost you upwards of 80% of the points on a multi-step problem, single handedly tanking your grade. On more than one occasion I saw someone physically brought to tears by the final. Although she may be one of the better teachers in an overall horrid department, this class is still an atrocity and fulfills its reputation as the most failed class on campus.
Calc 2 with Pisano is pretty good. Many people don't take advantage of her office hours which is dumb because she will help you with anything! Her tests are revolved around the worksheets you do in class with your group. Even though the Webassign homework is harder, she never puts questions like those on her exams.
It's a tough, frustrating course, but not impossible. Professor Pisano definitely knew her stuff and was a great professor. I highly recommend her class. It does require hard work, for sure, but it's not absolutely impossible.
Pro tip - redo the in class worksheets that she gives just before the test, it's good practice.
