AAS 2559

I LOVED PROFESSOR WALLACE. The class I took was films of Spike Lee so we watched about 2 movies/ week for homework and discussed them and the implications of them in class. Not gonna lie, the class was a little boring at times because only like 5/90 people speak! There are a lot of football players in the class and people who took it as an easy A so a lot of people sleep in class or just don't come. But Professor Wallace is extremely smart and likeable! esp if you talk to him in office hours and go to his talks that he gives around grounds. The class was fairly easy too but he does grade writing harshly (hes an english prof) so on the midterm I thought I could slack but... nah. Watch the movies, post in the forums and you'll do well.

This class was overall pretty enjoyable. All you do is watch Spike Lee films and come to lecture to hear him discuss them. But I do have some words of advice for potential students. Do not miss any quizzes or come to class late on quiz days. On these days he starts promptly at 2:00 ( or whatever the class time is) and if you miss any questions then you are screwed because each quiz is only 10 questions. Plus, because we only had 4 quizzes each ended up being worth 7% so fairly significant and you'll want them as grade boosters in the end. For the quizzes just take detailed notes on the lectures and go over them the day before for 1-2 hours and you should be fine. For me the exams were a bit harder. I managed to get B+'s on both of them but I felt like some of the things he took off points for were arbitrary as did others that I talked to. Also make sure to focus on the writing aspects of these exams as this is where you will get points taken off, always go deep into the historical context of the subject and you should be good. Also for the exams and notes in general, make sure you take note of specific scenes for each movie that he talks about as these scenes will be a significant part of the exams as well. !!!! MAKE SURE YOU PARTICIPATE IN CLASS AND IN THE FORUMS, ALOT!!!!! I did not do this as much as others and it came back to bite me because he ended up excusing the people who participated the most from the final!! I know this sounds like a lot but honestly this class was pretty great. Just make sure you come to lecture and most importantly watch the movies because you can't do good without that. I ended up with an A.
