Professor Qi is an excellent lecturer, and complex analysis is a beautiful subject. We used Gamelin's Complex Analysis as our textbook, covering the first 7 chapters. The textbook is fine, but quite frankly Professor Qi's lecture notes were better. I found myself returning to those much more when studying.

The homework assignments were often long, and sometimes included some challenging problems, but I found them rewarding. It almost never felt like a slog. They were also graded leniently. However, homework was only worth 10% of the final grade. I understand this as a measure to prevent potential cheating from padding one's grade too much, but it did not feel like fair compensation for students who truly put in the effort to understand the homework.

We also had 5 quizzes throughout the semester. Although they were the easiest assessments we had, they were worth 25% of the course grade, and messing up on a couple of them could meaningfully impact your overall grade. However, Professor Qi drops the lowest one.

The midterm and the final for the class were both reasonably straightforward. We were allowed formula sheets, and there were 10 points worth of extra credit available on each. Additionally, Professor Qi published practice exams for both. I found this all very fair and helpful.

Despite a couple of criticisms, I am generally thrilled with the class. The content is interesting, the professor is amazing, and I must recommend it to those interested.
