Thermodynamics with Professor Dedic might be the best taught class I have taken at UVA so far. Professor Dedic made a class that normally has a pretty poor reputation quite easy. In SIS the class is MWF with a Thursday evening however she used the Friday block as an optional office hours block and the Thursday evening slot was a usually optional TA help session/exam block. The class structure consisted of weekly/bi-weekly homework assignments, weekly 15 minute quizzes, and a few 5-10 minute videos covering concepts. Quizzes and assignments were fairly low stress. The lectures would be spent reviewing the videos taught in the videos and doing practice problems. The textbook is recommended in the syllabus and I got it but only really used it once and could have probably just as easily not so you can probably get by without it just fine. This class had no final exam and instead culminated in a final "power plant project." This is a pretty large project and definitely cannot be completed easily the day its due so plan ahead. She provides lots of resources for help on it though and quickly responds to question posted to Piazza about it.

Dedic is a very pleasant and kind professor. The course itself is fair as long as you keep up with things. Tests are a little hard but homework is leniently graded as long as effort can be clearly seen. A pro tip would be to proactively plan ahead to manage the Power Plant project and the final. If you don't you will stuck with choosing one over the other despite both being having about the same grading weight.
Fantastic class and professor. Thermodynamics was such a daunting word / subject when I entered the semester and I can leave saying it was one of the most clear, interesting and practical classes I've taken as a mechanical engineering student. The class is structured perfectly and lectures are delivered efficiently and succinctly; I'll give you a heads-up that the Power Plant Project is an absolute monster (not insanely difficult, just very very long) so start on that when it is announced. Do NOT wait until the last few days. You've probably heard this warning before for other classes and projects but you can take this one as gospel, do not mess around. Anyway, loved this class and Professor Dedic!
This class was one of my favorites. For a 3-credit class, the workload was pretty manageable, with around 8 problem sets, each with about 5 or 6 questions. There is definitely a learning curve, but I wouldn't say it's that bad. Towards the end of the class, the class introduces a Python module called CoolProp, which is quite honestly really fun to play with and easy to use, even if you're not much of a CS person. There is quite a bit of extra credit in this course, mainly from discussion attendance and hard homework problems. Definitely recommend this one!
I love Professor Dedic. I took this class during her first year teaching at UVA, and it was amazingly organized and thorough. She had relevant example problems at the end of each lecture and pop quizzes (one simple problem, 10-15 minutes) that were maybe once every other week to track attendance and understanding. Those quizzes didn't amount to much of your grade though. Her office hours are extremely helpful, but they became quite crowded near the end of the semester ESPECIALLY when it came to the final project. She is extremely intelligent, understanding, and patient. I really loved the class and the course material, so I found it enjoyable although I know that the problem sets (5-7 problems....nothing compared to other courses) were a bit tricky if you started them at the last minute. I went to the discussions too; it was helpful to get extra practice and I think she offered extra credit at one point to boost attendance. The exams are super reasonable; the final exam even had some extra credit. The final group project was a bit of a challenge, but you didn't need to put too much extra effort into it if you didn't want to go that extra mile. Don't worry, you are in great hands!
Prof Dedic is a great professor. The subject isn't the easiest but she does a great job of explaining problems and going over them. The problems sets come out to around every other week and only take an hour or two. Some studying required but very interesting. The Discussion was optional for my year and I didn't go, but is useful for going over more example problems.
