I took this class with Kahrl as the professor and Eitan as the TA. Karhl's lectures were interesting, but in my personal opinion, they focused too much on racial relations rather than on broader U.S. history. I do understand that it is Kahrl's forte, as well as it being an integral piece of our history, but I think that there needs to be more of a balance. Other than that, the class was pretty cool, the lectures were always interesting and engaging, and Kahrl always incorporated something cool, like a recording of something relevant to the class.

We had a discussion section that was managed by Eitan, a grad student. Eitan is a cool dude who was always chill in discussion, always brought up interesting points, and managed the discussion well. Only critisism I would have was that his grading style is too harsh. Our midterm exam was only 50 minutes long, during which we had to write an essay as well as do 15 IDs, and points were deducted if you did not write in 'active voice ', which I found pretty ridiculous to be honest. I can understand that in an essay, where you have time to focus on your diction and syntax, but in the time crunch of an exam is a little much. The overall grading in this class was much too strict for an introductory class, to be honest.

Overall, I enjoyed the class and I learned a lot in it, I'd like to take another one of Kahrl's classes later down the line.
