Jennifer Winchel is one of the best professors I've had at UVA. She is SO nice with a little bit of quirkiness (in a good not weird way), making jokes throughout class and always making her students smile. She is so sincere- she personally emailed me when I missed class once (since I go to every class) to make sure everything was ok! She's also very approachable and will give you her honest opinions regarding your next accounting classes (if you're an accounting concentrator).
She makes everything so accessible for you to succeed- she prints and passes out (also posting for those on ipads/laptops) all of her pre-filled lecture notes (having all content heavy stuff already filled in) and writes on her ipad/at the same pace during class so you don't fall behind. She records and posts every lecture, but advises coming to class and the majority of class is there every day even while having this option. She also gives you practice problems that aren't for a grade that very closely mimic the questions she puts on the exams and even posts the solutions to help you better understand the topic. The amount of work you do per week is up to you but to ensure you do well on the exams I'd suggest doing the extra practice problems since you can refer back to them. She not only makes her content available (plus even more additional practice problems she creates on her own) but she makes herself available so often. On the day of our first midterm her husband was literally getting surgery but she kept emailing us to let us know when she'd be in person in comm or available by zoom / phone / email to answer any questions we had!
There's 5 "by yourself" quizzes (open note), 2 group quizzes (open note and can work with 4-5 students to come up with the answers), and 2 midterm exams (again, everything is open note). This is the first time I've truly understood everything that is going on in accounting and liked what I was learning- can't say enough about Professor Winchel!!!
