Professor Young was the nicest professor I had all semester. She was always so passionate to teach the material and she cared a lot about the success of her students. The class itself is good amount lot of work, but it's all manageable in terms of difficulty. There are a ton of assignments in the first one or two weeks but don't let that scare you away from the class. Overall, if you manage your time well, SPAN 1060 will be a good experience with Professor Young.
Professor Young is an incredibly passionate and understanding instructor. Through her flexibility, positivity, and eagerness to assist students it is clear she wants her students to succeed. Professor Young was inclusive and encouraging to students at all language levels which made learning a new language far less intimidating. I would 100% recommend taking SPAN 1060 with her if you are able to.
Professor Young is definitely the best teacher to have for SPAN 1060! She explains difficult grammar concepts so well, offers a ton of extra practice, responds quickly to emails, grades assignments quickly, and is overall an amazing teacher to have. Since the course is basically a combination of 1010 and 1020 in one sem, there's a lot of work. However, when there were too many assignments due at once, we were given extensions to make it a little easier. As long as you put in a little effort for your projects and stay on top of assignments, you shouldn't struggle too much. If you do ever feel like you need help, Professor Young is so nice and very easy to reach out too <3 She always checked in with us to see how we were doing during class, and if she noticed that there was a lot of confusion, she would email us extra practice. #tCFfall2021
Professor Young is a great professor and she is the best professor I had this semester. She really cares about her students and she is very accommodating when people need help. She is great about answering questions and always stops to make sure people understand the concepts she is going over. Professor Young is really good about replying quickly to emails as well if you have any questions. The class moves fast, but she gives you so many resources to help you succeed in class and over email. This course material is the same across SPAN 1060, and there can be a decent amount of textbook activities. However, there were several times we got extensions when projects were really close together so that took the stress off as well. You should definitely take this class with Professor Young, she is a really fast grader and this class was one of the few I had where I always knew my grade. The exams were never too challenging as long as you studied a couple days before, but I do recommend taking the time to learn the vocabulary because that can come back to bite you. If you are a first-year it is really great to have a professor that knows you and wants you to do well so don't miss out. #tCFfall2021
The 1060 course itself is definitely a lot of work and requires time management. The homework assignments/projects and other due dates are the same across all of the courses, so choosing a good instructor will help the course to be enjoyable. Professor Young is one of the nicest and most understanding professors I have had at UVA. She makes class time fun and is very outgoing!! Going to her office hours/tutoring is very helpful as well. If you are considering taking SPAN 1060, I 10/10 recommend taking it with Prof. Young!!!
There is a reason this course is four credits, it moves quickly and covers a LOT of vocabulary and grammar! Sometimes, it can feel like a lot of busy work (course work may look different in person though). However, Professor Young makes this course super enjoyable. She is energetic, kind, and understanding. She is also a very fast grader. I highly recommend taking SPAN 1060 with Professor Young!
Professor Young is the best! She is always so enthusiastic in class and will help with any concepts you have trouble understanding. Even over zoom, she is able to keep everyone engaged and keep the class interesting. Class (over zoom at least) consists of going into break out rooms with a partner and going through different activities (talking, filling in blanks, conjugating, etc). These activities in class are really easy if you keep up with work on Contraseña. Outside of class, you learn the whole curriculum on Contraseña. I think it's a good site that teaches concepts well and provides a TON of practice problems. The work on Contraseña can get very repetitive but it's really not that bad. The exams are pretty easy if you put in the time to study a little bit. This class is accelerated and there are a lot of concepts to cover, but none are that hard to learn. On top of that, Prof Young provides a lot of resources to make sure you can succeed in the class (tutoring, extra practice links sent via email, etc). A big part of the grade is the unit projects, and they're all really easy as long as you follow what the directions are. Some projects take longer than others, but it's a minimal amount of work for how much they affect the grade, so make sure you do them. Overall, Prof Young is the best professor ever and I would 100% recommend this class to anyone wanting to take Span 1060!
I love love love Professor Young! She is very personable, understanding, and answers all student questions. She is so encouraging and genuinely cares about student success and will do whatever it takes to help them get there. She has high expectations for her students, but she is a fair grader and is always going above and beyond to help her students. Probably one of the best teachers I've ever had period.
Professor Young is THE professor to take 1060 with. She is super nice and super helpful and always very upbeat. If you have taken Spanish before this class should be a breeze, especially the first half. If you have not taken Spanish, this can be very difficult. Professor Young is very chill about grading. As long as you show that you have put in effort, you will get 100's on most assignments. You don't have to have flawless Spanish, she is mostly just looking for improvement and dedication. Tests are generally pretty easy. Just review the big grammar concepts and the vocab. Major key to get her to like you is to literally volunteer to answer questions as often as possible. She loves the students who constantly answer questions whether they are right or not. The 96 for an A standard seems daunting, but many assignments are basically participating, only about 50-60% of your grade is real assessment. Also, after your second try on connect hw, you can see the correct answers so don't fret about being perfect on those. Lot's of HW each week which is all easy but slightly annoying. Overall, 100% recommend taking this with Professor Young, but I have heard that all the 1060 professors are very good too.
Professor Sara Young is one of the most energetic and engaging professors I've had at UVA! In the beginning, I was kind of upset I had to take Spanish again because I didn't place out on the foreign language exam, but my experience with this class, my classmates, and Professor Young couldn't have been any better! Professor Young always explains everything concisely and thoroughly and she will always answer everyone's questions. When I or other students make mistakes in her class, she will correct us in a very kind way so we can learn from our mistakes. I'm never afraid to raise my hand in her class because I'm not afraid to make mistakes in her class. I know with some of my other classes, I'll won't want to raise my hand unless I know I have the correct answer. The class can be a lot of work, but the work is never too difficult. As long as you keep up with work and review the vocabulary over time and take notes on the grammar tenses, you will succeed in this class. Overall, this is a great course and if you can, try to get Professor Sara Young!
