This is a review for Matheus's 4501: Algorithmic Economics. There's 2 hours of reading before every lecture covering 0.5-1 textbook chapters, with an associated discussion post-esque annotations. Lectures are pretty dry and usually just straight out of the textbook and walk through some of the proofs from the reading. There's weekly homeworks that are decently tricky. It's pretty easy to fall behind on them if you don't try. There were 3 strategy design assignments which involved coding up an implementation of one of the topcis in class to be played as a competition. The top performers are eligible for some extra credit.
The exams were pretty difficult with around 80% averages. Matheus would post practice questions and topics to know, but the exams tended to be easier than the practice questions.
The final project was super easy, just a small presentation and a write up. Mostly effort based.
Grading was 15% strategy designs (easy As), 40% midterms (fairly difficult), 15% final (easy A), 5% participation (effort on the psets and discussion posts).
Matheus is a nice guy and helpful in office hours but it's clear he doesn't care too much about the class itself. Grading is pretty fair.
This was for S26, not S25! Wouldn't let me post for S26.
