Class Structure:
Lecture based. Little participation required. You come to class, he touches on an article he read and will lead a brief discussion on it. He'll then teach using his powerpoint slides and will use his touch screen tablet to walkthrough problems and circle key parts of the lectures. He uploads his notes from class on Blackboard afterwards. There is 1 optional midterm (if you don't take it, your final is weighted something close to 70% of your total grade) and some group homeworks that are pretty much completion grades (if it is obvious you did the work, he'll give you the points). Midterm and Final was challenging.
Professor/Teaching Style:
Mike is one of the goofiest and nicest guys in the comm school. He obviously loves what he's doing and wants to see you be successful in his class. He holds regular office hours and is very approachable. His class is lecture based but the best way to learn is to ask questions in class while he's going through the material and he'll appreciate that a lot. The best way to ace this class is to pay attention in class so you can do the problem sets on your own. This class may be hard and the material may be dry if you're more of the restructuring/corpoate finance guy, but if you get stuck with taking investments for your capstone, Gallmeyer isn't bad.
