Sandas is a really nice guy who knows a lot about the content. That being said lectures were very monotone and most of the class is not paying attention because of that. The quizzes are incredibly easy if you study the review problem sets. Doing the textbook reading is a complete waste of time, just review the slides and do the problem sets. The final being worth 45% of the grade is tough but other than that I think this is a very doable class if you just dedicate time to studying the slides and review sets before the assessments. #tCFF23
About three years ago, I wrote a review for Bob Kemp saying I thought he was the worst teacher of my academic career. Today, I think Sandas takes that title.
Where do I begin? His lectures consist of giving a 20-30 page PowerPoint handout, followed by about an hour of mumbling that almost nobody understands. His lectures are dry, and littered with errors; more times than I can count on one hand, he has made mistakes in mathematical problems that disrupt student learning. Additionally and with the same frequency, I have heard students ask basic questions that he DOES NOT KNOW THE ANSWER TO. His answers often go something like "I am not sure" or "Short answer, I will need to get back to you on that."
On our last quiz, instead of giving us the quiz, he gave us the answer key, and added those percentage points to our final exam... On the exams, they are not too terrible, but if you make errors he will slash off points. He then accepted regrade requests, and I submitted a regrade request and saw many others. To my knowledge he still has not processed these (about 1.5 months old). In fact one student I know said his points from the regrade were added to an item other than his exam.
I think this class was my least favorite ever so far. We'll see how this final worth 50% of our grade goes.
