This is a pretty easy class - you write two papers and have two take-home tests and that's pretty much your grade. The papers are graded very easily and he also has you talk for about 5-10 minutes about what you wrote about, but it's pretty relaxed. The tests are graded a bit more difficultly because he uses questions that come from concepts covered quickly in class or vague questions that you give an open-ended opinion on. If you take good notes and put some time into the papers, you should do well.
Take this course. It's open to students from outside of the COMM school and is designed so that students from the liberal arts classes can succeed. The first part of the semester is basically a politics class with an overview of the European Union and its institutions. The second half of the semester is spend reading and discussing articles about current topics in the European Union. As long as you work hard, you will get an A on most assignments (1 midterm, 2 papers, and a final). Wilkerson teaches the class in a fairly casual manner and has a lot of great stories from Europe. There is no group work in this course.
As stated below, the first half of the semester is a political overview and the second half focuses on a course packet of articles that is divided among the students. There are also two papers you write about a country you're assigned to, a midterm, and final. There is nothing too difficult about this class and all the content is rather interesting. You learn a whole lot about the workings of the EU and become very knowledgeable on your assigned country. Highly recommend this course and professor even for non-COMM students.
Professor Wilkerson, while sometimes dry and goes off on random tangents, is pretty passionate about the EU and its history/culture and truly knows what he's talking about. He's also very caring in terms of what his students are going through if you are having some personal or family issues and is a really great guy - would recommend!
In the first half of the semester you will read a book about the European Union and discuss is in class. The second half is based on numerous news paper articles that are discussed. Two exams and two reports (on on a country, one on a company) to write. Everyone is assigned to a country for which you will report about current news. Professor Wilkerson is very knowledgeable about the EU. The class can be boring at times. However, Wilkerson's dry humor can be entertaining but sometimes leads to making fun of the EU for almost irrelevant things.
