Professor Gray can be pretty boring and he lectures off PowerPoint slides which isn't as engaging as other teachers. He's nice enough but I don't think he provided enough direction or feedback about data flow diagrams. Systems has the potential to be a really interesting class topic but falls short with Professor Gray.
Professor Gray is horrible. He thinks way to highly of himself and thinks he is right about everything. His class adds zero value. Every other class in the comm school is interactive and interesting, EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE. He stands up there and talks at you for over an hour, asking stupid questions and expecting smart answers. To add insult to injury (literally), my classmate overheard him at Roots complaining about the intelligence level of our block. Of course, Professor Gray never considered himself as part of the problem. This guy is an absolute loser, has no place in the comm school, and has an obnoxiously overgrown goatee. He sucks!
He will put you to sleep. How do I know? People fall asleep in his class. Margaritaville is a god awful corporate sponsor. Why? Well, when you have to do your semester long project, you have to come up with a new idea for Margaritaville to do. When you spend time with them during an evening Tuesday session, they are exceptionally unhelpful. You will likely spend many hours simply trying to figure out what to do your project on, which will suck. Why would they come to McIntire if they already have so many different business segments? Ffs. Gray's lectures are dry, dull, and intimidating. He makes it very clear from the very beginning of the class that if you bring up a point that he thinks is dumb, he will treat it as a dumb comment. Gray's assignment is even worse. Instructions are vague, information needed to complete the assignment is insufficient, and you don't get nearly enough practice doing the exercise before you're assigned to do it. He and Margaritaville facilitated my unending hatred of ICE. Also, don't expect Margaritaville to give you anything special as a result of them being the corporate sponsor they don't give you any perks.
Gray seems scary but is one of the nicest and most approachable professors in COMM. He has a crazy amount of background knowledge of IT and wants to help his studnets any way he can. We went into much more advanced IT concept than other blocks and we were asked to do more work and at a higher level so get ready to work and learn more than other blocks.
Grey is a sweetheart who creates a great atmosphere for open questions an in-class discussions. He is brilliant, if you ever have time, ask him about his career path. Personally, I wasn't the best at the data flow assignments, but some people liked them more. If you're thinking about the i.T. concentrations, systems is a good class to get your feet wet. Overall, Block 3 is challenging but worth it!
