The class is highly practical, and the material fairly straightforward. This has been critically helpful for me. However, while Professor Bonding is highly knowledgeable and usually gives good advice, I wish the lectures were much more concise and helpful. Midway through the semester, it seems everybody has mentally checked out. Also, I throught the mid-term was more difficult than necessary, considering the information would not need to be memorized in real life. Also, the 8am really starts to drag...
Professor Bonding is a great professor for this class. As an Econ major, I was familiar with many of the concepts beforehand so it made the class mostly review. However, for liberal arts majors this should be a required class. On the first day most people could not calculate simple interest and did not know the difference between a stock and a bond. Bonding can be a bit condescending when the class clearly did not do the reading but if you put in the minimal work she will like you, aka easy A.
This is a great class for people who feel absolutely clueless about investing, taxes, retirement saving, etc. It has empowered me to make a lot of plans and decisions I otherwise would be clueless about. Bonding is really knowledgeable and very invested in the success of her students. Sometimes she doesn't seem to understand why we are confused about certain things, but overall she is an effective teacher if you go talk to her yourself.
she can come off as harsh/condescending...but ultimately, I believe she really wants to help us poor unfortunate souls who have not a clue about money matters.
it was helpful! made me sit down and really learn practical life skills that I wouldn't have otherwise. I feel much better equipped for having taken the course.
If you actually get to know her, Professor Bonding is extremely nice and helpful. However, I do agree that she can come off as condescending. The course is helpful in that it introduces you to topics that we really should already know (different types of retirement plans, investment strategies, etc).
