I enjoyed taking COMM1800 with Professor Martin and would recommend him for anyone taking this course! The class is based on McGraw Hill and every week you'll have 1-2 chapters and quizzes that don't take too long. Lectures cover very interesting material (most of the time) and Mr. Martin will often crack jokes throughout! Grading criteria is based on a 500 point system so it's very easy and flexible to achieve an A. Attendance is mandatory as he does QR questions for participation points. The only tests are the midterm and the final, which are quite fair and easy to study for because of the McGraw Hill assignments which most of the questions are based off of. He's very fair and will drop questions that majority of the class gets wrong. The only con is that he dosen't accept late work under any circumstances due to you having access to the work days ahead of the due date, so as long as you stay on top of the assignments, you should be fine. Overall, he's a great guy and professor and I recommend taking this course with him!
Professor Martin is a good guy. He is very lenient with grading and doesn't push you very hard - for an 60 question exam he decided to give 6 questions as freebies since they were badly worded = 10% Boost for everyone. Contrary to some reviews of him in accounting, my experience with him was very positive. He genuinely cares about students' interests, and engaging with him can be very rewarding. The course material is quite basic, including chapters on familiar topics like social media. Attendance at lectures is mandatory due to QR code check-ins, but you have the flexibility to work on other tasks during class. I recommend taking Comm 2010 concurrently, as the overlapping material between the courses can provide some additional free time. Overall, the course is low stress and should be a free A.
