super easy class, finished w an a- when i should have had an a, ta's are chill and aproachable, people say other prof for this class is easier, the subject matter is pretty boring and i never read, but make sure to lock in for the exams, they are all multiple choice so you got that, i am not pre comm but it was flooded with 1st years, but i didnt feel disadvantaged bc they knew i wasnt a comm prospect, overall super doable class with mininamal outside of class work and very fair and honest grading
Overall, this course is one I would recommend taking if you have any interest in commerce. David is a great guy; however, he does get sidetracked in his lectures quite a bit. He posts notes after class and tries to answer all the questions students have. The tests are the hardest part of this course as he tries to trick students in them. Pretty Easy to get a B+, have to work hard to get an A- or A.
Costanza is a great guy and an engaging lecturer that turns content that is for the most part useless for most comm hopefuls into somewhat engaging material. There is essentially no homework, and definitely don’t bother doing any reading. I would, however, recommend writing down everything he says, every example he cites, and studying the niche parts of the lecture. The exams, for the most part are not that bad, however there will always be 5ish questions that do not make sense. Luckily, if you show up to every class and do your assignments, you can easily get an A in the class with a B average on the exams. The case studies in this class are much easier than Costa’s, so I’d recommend taking Comm 1800 with Costanza.
Class is pretty easy if you pay attention in lecture and take good notes. Costanza is interesting and makes a relatively dry subject into something worth listening to, especially with how he talks about real companies in his lectures. The textbook is completely unnecessary—one chapter in module 3 (IT) was just a textbook reading and no lecture, but it was so simple that it's not worth the $50 purchase.
Very easy, exam is entirely based on the lecture. I would recommend taking him for this class. I read the textbook, but it honestly did not add anything. As long as you pay attention and take notes of the examples used in class you will do very well in the course. You have to show up to lecture but that's basically the only thing. It is pretty social business based rather than any depth into finance, accounting, or any technical knowledge. Pretty easy for a comm school requirement. Definitely take it with him, he's also a pretty nice guy to talk to.
There are 3 exams and each are worth 15% and each exam is only out of 15 points. This makes each question vital to get correct. Also, he does not release the exams after so you do not know what you did wrong unless you speak with a TA. The rest of your grade should be an automatic 100% (broken down by attendance, case studies, weekly questions, online quizzes, etc). Costanza is a very engaging lecturer but I did not like his exams. It felt like he was constantly trying to trick me and I kept overthinking the questions. He is also very set in his ways and made me feel stupid at times.
David is a good dude, but the course was mind-numbingly boring and completely turned me off to the idea of comm. Was a course just based off common sense and stuff people should already know before going into college. Free A if you pay attention and do the case studies well. Don't lose easy points on quizzes and homework and you will do well.
Honestly, Professor Costanza was great. He is an entertaining lecturer with a clear passion for the subject, and is someone who clearly cares for the students of the class. Though I 100% recommend this course, I would caution any student about the two things before starting: 1. Professor Costanza accepts NO late work with ZERO exceptions (as someone who missed two assignments because of genuine circumstances, this was something that affected me) and 2. Professor Costanza loves to incorporate unclear/ambiguous and sometimes very niche questions into quizzes/exams, so be prepared to be confused during some of those assignments. My advice would be to go to office hours and take very good notes on the lectures as to retain any nitty gritty material he may use on a test/quiz, as well as get to know your TAs very well as they can help you with additional assignments like case studies. Overall, this class is a pretty easy A if you put In the effort and do moderately well on exams.
Professor Costanza is amazing. I couldn't recommend him or this class enough. He's such a great teacher and the little stories he tells during class to illustrate concepts are actually helpful. A lot of your grade depends on submitting work on time, and he never accepts late work. The tests are so-so, there will always be some questions that'll never make sense. Regardless, Costanza is a fair grader and it's clear he really does care about his students. I wish I could take this class again honestly.
