Prof. Costa is incredible! She makes class so engaging and enjoyable, and as someone who is not Pre-Comm, I was genuinely interested in the content. There is barely any work outside of class besides some book reading (mostly optional), 3 cases studies, and 6 easy, open-note quizzes. Her tests are very straight forward and if you study and memorize the content straight from the slides you will be set. The final is also weighed like a normal test and non cumulative. TOTALLY RECOMMEND!
I'm not pre-comm (general business minor) & I enjoyed this course! Assignments are fairly straightforward and the material was interesting, but not difficult- most of it was expanding on topics I had heard of before, but didn't really know the details of, so it was nice to go a little more in depth. I'd definitely recommend this course and Professor Costa for anyone interested in business! #tCFS25
Elaine is a passionate lecturer who wants her students to succeed. Despite having 100+ students each section, she encourages her students to participate actively in class. I found the reading not very helpful overall, but it is important to listen to her lecture to get specific examples for more ambiguous concepts. The content is not hard, almost mostly intuitive, but the Case studies and the tests do require good understanding and memorization of the material. She provided general study guide that covered what would be on the test, so I recommend you to take advantage of that. Other than that, lock in on the weekly reflection, do the career development, try to get extra point if it is available. Good luck!
Costa was a good professor and posts her slideshows which is super helpful. You do not need to read the textbook unless she specifically puts a section on the study guide. Watch out for the cases because it is hard to get above a 3/4 on them, and they will hurt your grade. Tests were not bad although it was hard to get above a 90. Make sure you do the extra credit.
Costa is a very good professor who will make an effort to know you if given the chance. She is very personable, and the class is engaging. Attendance is mandatory, but you'll likely be happy to go anyway. The only problem I had with this class is the tests are quite difficult and account for a heavy portion of the grade, but she will give you the resources to succeed.
An incredible professor. She's engaged, funny, and makes a genuine effort to remember/connect with students if you participate in class. Her lectures were easy to follow, and slides are posted. Textbook reading is technically required, but she'll tell you what textbook topics are on the exam in the study guide. Attendance is kind of mandatory, once a week (randomly) an attendance question is asked that counts towards your grade. Regardless, I would recommend going to class because she provides lots of helpful examples that aren't on the slides. Exams are fair and non-cumulative, slightly tricky, but nothing crazy. 60% of your grade is exams, 28% is attendance/reflections/research participation, and 12% is the cases. The cases are pretty difficult and impact your grade more than you think they will. I highly recommend taking the class with Costa as she's the easier grader of the two options. She also provides 1% extra credit and rounds up if you're .5% away.
In my opinion this course is not too hard as long as you study. Costa is a good professor, her lectures are funny and valuable. She made a lot of gen z references which were always funny. I honestly didn't go to most classes and still ended up with an A-. I never read the textbook once. All i did was 3 days before the exams I would basically memorize the slides and it was completely fine. The exams are completely conceptual based which might be hard for some people but easier than others. I often found myself struggling on the exams because since the questions were purely conceptual based I found some of them to be a bit opinionated. But other than that it was an easy course and I would def recommend taking it with Costa rather than Costanza. If ur taking this class u prob dont have a chice because ur either taking it for pre comm or a business minor.
