This class is very interesting, but difficult. The professor is also super sweet and helpful, and has a lot of great artistic insights. There are four assignments that make up the bulk out your grade:
1) "50-in-1" - making 50 different gestures out of 50 pieces of clay (this is more an experimental/introductory assignment).
2) "The assembled Image" - A 3x3 sculpture using slab construction that can hang on the wall.
3) "Repeated Forms, Shifting Meaning" - A sculpture that incorporates 12 clay copies made with 2-part plaster press molds.
4) "Purposeful Vessel" - The final assignment; a vessel that also incorporates woodworking.
You also get to learn about different artists and techniques throughout the semester. If you are not an art major, this is a great class for widening your perspective, but oh my goodness it is so hard and time-consuming. I took this course with no art background for fun, but ended up spending more time on it than all my other classes. I would be wary of taking it if you have a heavy semester (most of the work for sculpture is done outside of class).
TLDR: Interesting class, great professor, large time commitment.
