Unless you are truly interested in the politics of this region, I don't recommend this class. There was so much stuff covered in class, and you really have to go to lecture and take a good notes. Also, there are tons of readings, and exams are kind of picky.
That said, Prof. Quandt is incredibly knowledgeable and a nice person, so if you are indeed interested in the politics of middle east, this is the class for you.
First, this class does not have 337-odd hours of reading per week. The reading list is heavy, but you should expect that from Professor Quandt - he demands excellence from his students. I would advise students to take this class only if they are truly interested in learning about the region. The exams are not difficult once you know what Prof. Quandt wants you to say - figure that out and you're golden. Take this class with a friend so you can discuss the topics as you go, it definitely helps to learn the material better.
Professor knows the topic very well. He does an excellent job of teaching students the ins and outs of comparative MENA politics. Even if one has never learned anything regarding MENA politics in the past. Lots of reading and a tough exams but a strong curve. It is difficult to score anything lower than a B-.
