Bloomfield is the man. He knows everyone's name in a 250-person lecture when only a third of the class usually shows up. If you have taken a physics class before this class is extremely easy. Readings optional. If you don't want to go to class one day, don't go. His classes are mildly entertaining, though. He does lots of demonstrations. Midterms were extremely easy. He made the final a bit more difficult this year because of that. Previous years' midterms and finals are on his website to practice with before exams. Do the problem sets and do them well. I made the mistake of not trying on some and didn't end up with a good problem set grade. Great class if you need to knock out a science credit. Not everyone gets an A as people claim, though. A majority of his students, he claims, get a B. Did I mention he is the man behind Lou's List?
Lou Bloomfield is ICONIC. Not only is he the GENIUS behind Lou's List, but he created this whole class from scratch. The text book was written by himself and he came up with all of the examples/information. He posts the lectures online meaning you don't have to come to class; however, I always ended up going because he uses class time to do experiments like throwing liquid nitrogen on the ground and setting bubbles on fire. Problem sets are worth 30% of your grade so do well on them- the questions are weird but do-able. The exams are a piece of cake- he posts ALL of the previous exams on his webpage and he repeats questions from old exams on his new ones. Overall a great professor/person who hates SIS just as much as his students. Lou Bloomfield: the man, the myth, the LEGEND.
Bloomfield is great, but he flipped the classroom this semester, so there was a lot of time wasted. Some cool demos and interesting nuggets of knowledge. Not an easy A, but B+ or A- is definitely easy. First two exams were recycled questions from past exams (which he posts online), but the final was original and difficult. Problem sets are difficult, so he recommends you do them with friends. Not a bad class.
