Classwork, weekly homework + quizzes, two exams + final, and one group project comprise your grade. Kristina was a pleasant instructor and was always available to answer questions. Each class progressed through a worksheet that served as notes and practice problems for each topic. Nearly everything we learned was formula-based but calculator dependent (scientific is perfect). Each week ended with a short quiz which the homework was to prepare you for. I would recommend starting before the night it is due as they were long and somewhat difficult. The exams were manageable and so was the group project, much like the homework, they're just dense. I recommend this course to everyone as there is a lot of essential financial information that we learned!

Highly, HIGHLY suggest this class, especially if you are needing to fulfill a gen ed! I came in not knowing a single thing about finance, and had forgotten everything since high school math, but am leaving with the understanding of interest (simple and compound), loans, annuities, refinancing and consolidation, mortgages (including all the pesky terms like closing costs or prepaids), and credit cards (and what APR is!!!!). Kristina is such a great professor, walking you through the basics and terms, really showing how much she cares about your learning. Class moves a little speedy but go to office hours or read up outside of class (and in between classes). There are weekly homeworks and quizzes on Fridays, two midterms, a simple group project, and a final exam. Make sure to show up to class and pay attention, it makes life 10x easier. Expect to put in ~2-3 hours a week on homework. I suggest doing it before your quiz, you'll feel a lot more prepared.
The best part of this course is how much more you will know about basic life skills that so many people lack (including myself about 4.5 months ago). Yes, it's math, but it's just basic algebra, and then lots of real-life terms you need to know. I really enjoyed getting to know my classmates from working with them so much, as well as learning from Kristina. Overall, I looked forward to going to class (crazy, I know) and learned a lot. Take MATH 1140!!!!!

Professor Cernekova is awesome! I had no prior knowledge of financial math and was really only taking this class because I needed to fufill my computational gen ed and didn't want to take calc. I will say this class was not a walk in the park. You have to be attentive in class and stay up to date with everything, but professor cernekova is very helpful with any questions you have. Exams are very reasonable but you have to put in the work, and when they say she's a fair grader it's true, but not in a forgiving sense. Overall I thought this was a good class, but if you want an A, you're going to have to put in the work.

Very strict and particular with grading; TAs grade not the professor and she provides no leniency or grace with deadlines outside of a 10 minute late extension for homework assignments past 11:59pm. A very "if I offer it to one student, I must offer it to everyone else" professor. Don't recommend if you're a chronic skipper, this class heavily relies on in-person attendance. If you're committed it could live up to its "easy" reputation, but if you don't stay consistent with coursework, it's really easy to fall behind and hard to catch back up. Take advanatage of office hours if you're struggling, professor is kind and willing to help, but a stickler for policies.

I took this class in Spring 2025 (it just wasn’t available as a selection when writing this review). Overall, it’s a very manageable and is the definition of an easy A, though you should expect to spend around 3 hours per week on homework.

The class moves at a fairly slow pace, and most of the concepts are straightforward - especially if you’re comfortable with basic math. Kristina genuinely cares about her students' success and did an excellent job preparing us for the midterms and final exam.

There are weekly quizzes every Friday, so regular attendance is important. However, the quizzes are quite easy and often include bonus riddles that can help boost your score.

I’d recommend this class if you have a solid grasp of foundational math. Some of my peers struggled a bit, especially those who didn’t feel as confident in math, but I personally found it very easy. It’s a great option if you’re looking to fulfill a math requirement or raise your GPA with a low-stress course.

very solid class, easy to follow. doesn't assume any prior math knowledge so a good class for non-STEM people needing to fulfill requirements. Kristina is always available to help and grading was fair.
