Don't take this unless you have to (which is all the aero/mech-E's), or you love writing lab reports. Laufer knows what he's talking about...but know one else does. The labs are extremely vague and nobody knows whats going on until they've already turned in their report. Reports take anywhere from 8-20 hours and are miserable. That being said, I feel like I did learn a fair amount by the end of the class.
Laufer is a truly awful professor and his miserable sense of humor quickly becomes grating. He is minimally helpful with the lab and all you can do is hope for a good TA. The class averages about six hours of writing a week but in reality that will be 12 hours every week when reports are due. I doubt anyone who doesn't have to will be taking this class. The material isn't difficult once you get the hang of it. Read the powerpoints (even thought they haven't been updated in half a decade) and the manuals for a good basis of what is going on. Do the prelab correctly because it will make everything else go easily.
