Prof. Leo was very enthusiastic and a good professor when it came to teaching the content. Obviously, most of the content was taught of slides with example problems that may get repetitive/boring but he also hosts office hours and has times for feedback from students.
He tries to get the class to be engaged which works and also has at least an iclicker quiz a week, which is at the end of class, based on what the slides just said.
The homework is doable/not too difficult, with office hours also being an option for help as well as online resources. Homework’s are given a week to complete and there are lots of opportunities for partial credit.
There are 2 midterms; each one is about 3-4 units and quite literally very similar to the homework, with some questions being the exact same and others being the similar difficult level. There also is a bonus question worth 10 pts which helps. Total of 4 regular questions though. Lots of space for partial credit as long as you write stuff down.
The TA / grader is another masters student and he also is very lenient on the grading and doesn’t try to fail you. He also gives helpful hints during the exams!
The best way to end off with an A in this course is to understand the slides and try to do the homework yourself (with some help if you need) and fully understand the concepts from the start, as most things carry on throughout the semester.
Different from the other professor, the final wasn’t cumulative , which was great because it gave time to focus on his the recent concepts although this class sort of does build off of earlier concepts.
Exams are outside of class and usually 1.5-2 hours. The only downside of taking this class at this time was the late final exam time tbh.
There are around 12 homework’s each worth 100 pts, which make up a good amount of the grade, with each midterm being each 20% of the grade as well as the final being 20%.
It is highly important that you don’t leave the concepts for last second because that’s what I did but honestly just conceptualizing through each problem is what works best.
Just a last note, he sometimes gives candy to people who answer his questions during class. Best of luck if you take this course!
