This course just turned into a summer asynchronous course, so some things are bound to change in the future. However, currently the course is taught through a series of recorded lectures, guest lectures, and videos for P6 from Plan Academy. The current course assignment structure is the following:
1) A-Assignments:
-There are 10 of these assignments, and they test your knowledge of mathematical, logical, and organizational concepts covered in the course. These aren't always inherently related to scheduling, but that is why the course is also about "planning" and "control." These assignments cover the full breadth of the course, and they are generally not terribly difficult. Most notably, every assignment has a writing portion; not every assignment has a math portion, and the last assignment is particularly difficult due to some unstated assumptions you have to make.
2) P-Assignments
-There are 5 of these, and they are supposed to be Primavera P6 labs; Primavera P6 is the primary tool you will be using for scheduling specifically throughout the course. Each of these P6 assignments is assisted with a series of videos from Plan Academy, and these videos can be somewhat complicated and longer than necessary. The P6 assignments themselves can require some mathematical calculations, always a writing portion, and usually some sort of decision/analysis question. The thing with P6 assignments, as you will learn quickly, is that there are many ways to make a tiny error in this highly particular program; I would suggest learning how to Import/Export Excel data to make importing activities and their relationships easier. Overall, not bad, but definitely more tedious and difficult than A-Assignments.
3) Padlet Posts
-Every week there was at least 1 Padlet post, where after a guest or regular lecture, you were to answer a series of questions or reflect on the material. These are low stakes, and they require no follow-up responses to other students' posts, which is a blessing (for those of you who work ahead like me).
The professor was typically available via Piazza, and she gave pretty extensive feedback on assignments. Her response times varied greatly, but she also responded to Piazza questions over the weekend and later at night. Overall, her communication was usually pretty quick, responding in less than 3 days, but it is not always guaranteed to get an answer on an assignment the same day. Overall, this course is great for Civil/Mechanical/Systems Engineering, Urban Planning, Architecture, Business/Commerce/Economics students, and it teaches skills essential to project management and common business planning techniques.
