Professor Tian is really nice and she is a great professor for this class. She makes sure that each group has what they need to succeed. The course is really just a semester long project where you work with a client to solve a certain problem. Admittedly some of the projects are more impactful than others. The grading is very fair and if you follow the rubric you’ll get a good grade. We had some issues with ordering materials for some of the projects this semester but Professor Tian was actually taking it into her own hands to make sure that our materials were ordered since somebody else was in charge of it. At the end of the year you present your project at an expo for a couple hours and that counts as your final. I’d recommend picking a project you’re passionate about or that applies to your major because it could provide good experience.

I had a rough experience with a different professor in the fall, and made a great decision by looking for a switch. Tian is the most kindhearted and considerate professor I have met at UVA thus far, and takes care to engage with all of her students. She shifts deadlines based on student feedback, consistently checks in on and socializes with her classes, and provides generous office hours. Overall, Professor Tian is a patient and warm professor who improves the Engineering Foundations experience and the overall UVA community.
Saint of Professor. Recommend her over any other professor for Engineering Foundations 1/2 because compared to all my friends she seems the easiest by far. NEVER grades harshly and she really tries to build personal relationships with all her students.
Super easy class (has lots of busy work, not terrible though), don't make it hard on yourself and chose an easy project because it literally doesn't matter.
