This class is similar to Engineering Foundations 1; however, you work on the same project the whole semester with the same group. Depending on the group dynamic, this may be a good or bad thing. The projects are interesting as they are real-life issues, and you have an actual client whose problem you are trying to solve. Getting to work on solving the problem was fun; however, there were lots of random reflections and other assignments that felt like a waste of time, as they didn't relate to or further develop the project. There is also a final report that is due, which is extremely long and requires lots of work. You do work on it throughout the semester, so try to save as little as possible for finals week when it is due. Professor Starling is really nice and helpful, but she does talk a lot during class, which takes away from work time.

The class itself is pretty similar to ENGR 1010, with the major exception of the semester long client projects, where groups are tasked with formulating solutions to problems on Grounds and in the Charlottesville area. Towards the middle and end of the semester, this project takes up the most of class time as well as time outside of class. These projects span a variety of clients and topics, and it is thus understandable that it may be hard to manage for a single person or department. However, I often felt that Starling didn’t have a full understanding of what our project entailed, making it difficult for our group to complete the intermediate assignments to her expectations. When met with difficulties with group members, Starling was very receptive to concerns and did her best to resolve them. She’s very fun and does her best to make a monotonous class more enjoyable.
