ECON 4110 was a very interesting and informative class. You learn a lot about business strategy and deepen your understanding by applying many microeconomic and IO concepts. The course was taught by Prof. Moore, who has extensive private-sector experience and teaches in a manner similar to the MBA course offered at Darden. There is one midterm and one final. Both are not memorization; more so, the application of knowledge and the analysis of case studies on the final. Attendance is MANDATORY for success, as well as participation. It is important to thoroughly understand the weekly case studies and be ready to answer questions in class about them to improve your grade. There are lots of readings every week and tons of information. One drawdown - he curves all grades down to a B+ scale average. Don't be afraid of a low grade on the midterm as well, as they are difficult exams and will be adjusted to the curve. There is little math involved, mainly conceptual, but still a difficult course. I enjoyed it, while Prof. Moore can be very strict at times, he is a very knowledgeable professor and worth hearing his lectures.

This is low-stress, fairly interesting ECON elective. Professor Moore has a background in both teaching and the private sector, providing an interesting perspective and many relevant anecdotal stories throughout the semester. Work consists of reading business news articles and writing weekly reports on case studies, and lecture discusses those articles and their applications in the context of firms creating and maintaining a competitive advantage. From my viewpoint, it is more like a comm class than an economics one, meaning no math/calculus. There is an online midterm and final based on readings and concepts taught in class, and I found the grading for both to be rather confusing and slow, but fair overall. Would totally recommend this as ECON elective. #tCFS24
