AAS 3810

I loved this class so so much! Even for a 3000-level class I was able to take both this class and her AAS 2559 one this semester and they were honestly the reason I declared AAS as my second major. There are video discussion boards due twice a week, but they were usually under a minute of responses between the super interesting readings and videos we had each week. Theres also a midterm and a final, but if you've done the work then it shouldn't be hard. There are also 3 podcast episodes throughout the semester that you do on a topic of your choice where you basically just talk about a research article you found on the topic. Highly recommend this class, I absolutely loved it!

Professor Pendergrass is awesome!! Truly one of my favorite AAS instructors who even inspired me to take another one of her class sections. She is very understanding, always available for office hours, and makes the course material about race, culture, and inequality so relatable to us, topics, and concepts in contemporary America. Professor Pendergrass is a bit of a harsher/more critical grader, but she always welcome to providing a thorough explanation about a question you didn't understand or why you lost points on something particular in an assignment. Usually there is a discussion post twice a week (easy A!) +(ex - Tu/Thurs section --> post is uploaded Thurs, due next Tue) with 1-2 readings for each class section that are discussed in greater detail through a group environment. She makes the class super engaging and interesting with the resources that she utilizes to educate her students! There is also usually a large research paper/project that is introduced at the beginning of the semester and is due closer to the end. She has a detailed timeline of due dates for each section to make the work regarding the project more manageable (which I love about her classes!). A midterm and final are also a part of this class, but those are the only major exams involved. I have truly enjoyed taking her classes as a non-AAS major (psych) and would absolutely recommend this class to anyone, regardless of your major!
