The course was really interesting, but definitely a good bit of work. There were usually around 30–50 pages of reading before every class, and since the class met TR, it ended up being about 60–100 pages per week. There were reading checks every Thursday, plus one take-home midterm and one take-home final. Dr. Edwards is incredibly accomplished in her field, kind, and engaging; also, the material is super meaningful, eye-opening, and important. That said, it is not an easy A if you are not a history-oriented student. I kind of had to grind for an A-, but I learned a ton and now know way more about the history of American slavery than most of my history-loving friends. My advice would be to stay on top of the readings, take good notes, and do not underestimate the class just because there are no homework assignments.
