Michael Hull is an amazing person. If you put in even a little bit of effort he recognizes it and constantly offers opportunities to better your understanding and grade. He looks out for the good of the student over everything and while he personally loves statistics, he appreciates the fact most people are only taking the class for the credit. Overall there's not much classwork involved in the course, but the homework and activities he does include are very well explained. The class is graded based on a midterm and final as well as the at-home HW/Activities. There's no attendance taken and he does record the lectures, but I'd still recommend going in case you have any questions or need help on the homework.
Professor Hull is the sweetest professor. He is really passionate about statistics and having his students succeed. If you take the time to stay after class and ask a question about homework, he is more than willing to help you and give you credit just for meeting with him. The class only has a midterm and a final that are open note which is super helpful. Overall, I would recommend taking Professor Hull's class especially if you need a stat class in the Curry school.
this is the hardest easiest class I have ever taken in my entire life. The information is probably not that complicated but it is presented in the most confusing and boring way. do the homework and show up to class and you will probably get bonus points. watch the videos he posts because they explain the information in an easier way than the lecture slides
This is the easiest class I’ve ever taken and professor Hull is the sweetest professor I’ve ever met. However, I didn’t really learn anything and I don’t think anyone else in the class did either. Yet the majority of the class still got A’s. But I suppose if you’re looking for a GpA booster this class is great.
This class is probably the easiest Stats course at UVA. you dont have to read the textbook. every week you have 5 fairly easy HW problems due which add up to 1/4 of your grade and basically everyone gets at least a 90% on hw. The rest of your grade is 2 Open Note Midterms that are soo easy and an Open Note Final. Class can get really boring but class never lasted more than an hour. Highly recommend for the GPA boost.
If you're looking for a beginner stats course and really don't like stats, take this course. There isn't a ton of content, it's simplified, and a small class so you're not competing against 300 people in a lecture. Class is sometimes dry and there's awkward silence but helpful to understand the material and Professor Hull wants you to enjoy his class but knows most people don't like stats. Grade is consisted of 50 points homework, 50 points classwork (there wasn't really any, I think he said everyone got 50/50), a midterm and non-cumulative final, each 100 points.
Homework is sometimes confusing/difficult but it's never long, there's always a bonus, and Professor Hull is always available for office hours and will really guide you through the problems. The midterm was 2 days so there's a lot of points, and both exams are OPEN NOTES! just understand how to do the problems and it's not difficult.
Also, there's an online textbook (FREE) and I never read it and was fine.
