This class was nice for developing my interpersonal writing skills. Professor Donovan makes the class very personalized and gives a lot of detailed feedback on your writing.
The class was a decent amount of work, but the grading was very generous. Each week we had 2 discussion board posts (250-500 words) which took 1-2 hours each. We also had 3 1000 word writing projects about which were pretty open ended. These are basically graded on completion as long as you put in some effort and thought. Every class, we also had discussions about short texts and what we wrote for the discussion boards, which were also pretty interesting.
I'd recommend this class if you're willing to put in some effort in your writing and want to improve. Professor Donovan makes the class very enjoyable and I definitely saw improvements in my writing.

Devin Donovan is a phenomenal professor and there is definitely nobody better than him to take this class with. You will get an A as long as you don't slack off and miss assignments or fail to submit a final essay, and the class often involves discussion which is pretty valuable. You can choose not to participate too much, but as long as you don't go off on your phone and do your work diligently you will enjoy the class and Devin will inspire you.
Devin is great! His model for the course is engaging and the seminar aspect of the course makes it engaging pretty much every day. You have a lot of freedom with the various projects in the course, and he's very flexible with deadlines as well, but don't abuse that! Also, go to his office hours! There's weekly blog posts that have certain requirements, once you get the hang of those they become pretty straight forward. You really learn a lot about yourself and your writing process in this course if you apply your focus, so make it worth your time. You'll get out of it what you put into it!

I think I definitely made the right choice with choosing to take an advanced ENWR. Prof Donovan really cares about the subject and the progress of individual students. I really liked that he emphasized our growth as writers rather than meeting grading criteria. Class could be dry sometimes but I think that's a symptom of zoom. I got an A in the class and i think he assessed me fairly but critically throughout the course
I love Devin Donovan! This class provided lots of self-assessment through writing. None of the assignments are very difficult. Most of the writing is very personal, and the class is extremely interactive. I found a very great community within this ENWR. Professor Donovan does a great job leading discussions and listening to his students.
