This class is way underrated at UVA. Sweeney is really nice and very interactive. I enjoyed this minimal work course learning about adolescence and their development. Our work consisted of weekly journals based on the readings she assigns, participation (not graded harshly at all) and two papers. The journals are super easy, you just answer a few questions either based on the readings or your thoughts regarding the concept we learned that week. You only submit multiple journal entries three times during the semester, so just do them when they're assigned so you don't confuse yourself. Participation isn't really that harsh, only about 3-4 people answer the questions she asks during class, although it can be very awkward when no one participates so just speak up, so the course doesn't feel longer than it should- Sweeney loves a discussion based course. She asks questions about the readings during class, you technically don't have to read although it helps if you want to participate and also to answer the journal entries. We meet three days a week, but theres usually only one journal entry per week. I really recommend this class to anyone looking for a minimal work course or is just generally interested in learning about adolescents and wants to work with kids in the future. Great UVA course and honestly easier than Dracula. The two projects aren't too bad, the first one is a 2-3 reflection paper on several parts of your identity. The second project is a little bit harder, 4-5 page paper with a partner on creating an intervention on an issue discussed in class, my partner and I did it in a day, took like 2 hours. Highly recommendable easy A course.
