Professor Whaley is the sweetest professor! She's very approachable and very understanding. The class focuses on topics about older adults which I found to be really interesting because I never really thought about life as an older adult. Your grades come from: a short essay in the beginning of the course, a project and essay, a 10 page paper, some discussion posts, and a written final. It's more of a writing based class and the essays are overall pretty chill you mostly just have to integrate what you're learning about to your future self. She gives plenty of time for everything but make sure to get started kinda early. If you follow the deadlines you'll end up with a good grade! There are also no tests so that was really nice.
This is one of my favorite classes that I've taken at UVA. It is very interesting and relevant to every person's life. The cumulative grade is based on a few writing assignments, participation, an analysis paper (you get to choose the topic), and a final exam. The workload was very manageable. Additionally, Professor Whaley is amazing. She is very knowledgable on the topic, so she offers a lot of cool anecdotes. She genuinely cares about her students. This class was a great experience.
