If you are going to take a FREN 3031 class, take it with Professor James if you can. She is one of the nicest professors I've had and genuinely cares about all her students and is invested in their learning. As someone who hadn't taken a French class in over 2 years I was definitely a bit nervous coming into this, but as long as you demonstrate that you are making an effort to learn you will do well. She's super friendly, was always willing to help me directly on things I had trouble with, and I never felt bad for making a mistake speaking or writing in class. There were 3 major writing assignments throughout the semester where we'd submit essentially a first and revised draft and our grade on the assignment was the combined score from the two drafts. You will also have to maintain an ePortfolio where you'll make some blog posts and reflections occasionally throughout the semester. There are also a couple take-home grammar quizzes which are heavily based on the textbook/workbook for the course and so aren't too difficult as long as you do the grammar homework exercises.

I had Professor James in FRTR 2580 (which is a great class on it's own, high recommend) and really liked this class with her! There are weekly journal assignments that you have to submit, three writing assignments, and an ePortfolio to maintain. I got pretty behind in the journal responses, but she was super understanding which I really appreciated. We go over some of the same grammar that I learned in 2020 but it was good practice. Daily homework assignments help with the grammar, too. The class is taught in French and it was really cool to see my writing and speaking skills improve as the semester progressed. Professor James is really passionate about French and wants to help you learn. Definitely recommend taking FREN 3031 with her.

Awesome, really loved Mme James. She is very understanding and just wants to see you succeed. Sad covid hit before I could get closer to her, go to her office hours or just shoot her an email. Very nice and explains concepts very easily! She loves people who participate in class too (whether you are good or not, she just likes the effort). Easy A for sure, A-/B+ if you dont try

Take this class with Professor James! She is one of the nicest people I've met and she really wants you to succeed. This is a class that is basically just focused on grammar so it is not the most interesting, but take it with Karen if you want to be enjoyable. She is so nice and connects the grammar to modern events with songs and pictures. I wouldn't just take this course for fun, there is a decent amount of work. But if you have to take it, take it with professor James. The course has 4 written assignments, 3 with first drafts, 7 online quizzes, but they're open note and you drop the bottom grade, and a take home final!

Mme James is an amazing professor. She is extremely approachable and wants to see her students succeed. You will not regret having her!!!
