McMillen is great and the class is very interesting. There's a lot of reading but it's worth it, and the only grades for the class are three fairly short essays (5-7 pages), so not too too much work. The subject is fascinating, I learned so much about public health!

Class covers a survey of major epidemics and pandemics throughout history, McMillen is a great lecturer who truly wants to get to know his students and wants them to do well as well. Your grade consists of participation (both in collab forums and in person) and 6 essays about 5 pages. The essays themselves aren't that difficult, but McMillen isn't the easiest grader. Overall, there is a lot of reading and writing in this course- be prepared to read critically and answer important reading questions. Each week you have to write a paragraph answering a question on the readings- but this is helpful as you can incorporate the weekly responses into the larger essays. Good course!
