Professor Kim really cares about all of her students. Even though it is a large class, there are many opportunities to get to know her. She is empathetic and incorporates "guided rest" activities during class. There are a lot of guest speakers. Honestly, the course is mostly guest speakers which is cool and a good way to build connections. To be honest, I skipped class a lot and still managed to stay on top of the (minimal) assignments! Definitely take this class if you're interested in education policy or need an engaging (fairly) easy class.

I LOVED this class! Chi Kim is one of the BEST professors I have had at this university! I have never had a professor care more about my mental health than Professor Kim. We started every class with a breathing exercise and ended every class with a guided meditation. It was something I genuinely looked forward to everyday. The class consisted of 19 guest speakers (CEOs, education innovation creators, non profit startup creators, etc). There were many readings we were assigned before each class, but in all honesty there were some repetitive articles assigned in the same night so I would skip them, and for full transparency, I stopped reading for this class altogether and did just fine. We were assigned discussion posts in innovation groups on Canvas where we responded to a question and then had to respond to 3 of our group mates (3 of these discussion posts over the semester I believe). We also had to do case studies that were super simple and took maybe an hour to do (5 of these). And we did 3 analysis memos which took a little more time, but they were still relatively easy if you follow the rubric (if you complete all 3, the lowest grade is dropped and the highest grade is doubled). We were to submit google form questions for the guest speakers before they came to present, but there was no system where this was tracked so there was no penalty if you didn't. We also had to do reflection posts after a couple modules which was a place for us to share our thoughts about what we learned. The grade was made up of all of these assignments and the "participation" was based on your completion of these tasks (participation 15%, case studies 15%, weekly reflections 15%, analysis memos 45%, final reflection 10%). I ended this class with an A+ and as long as you submit all the assignments (which late work is excepted and extensions are very easily granted if needed) you can easily obtain an A+! I highly highly highly recommend this course not only because of its low difficulty, but because I learned a lot about educational innovations and I loved getting to learn from professor Kim.

Chi is literally my favorite professor at UVA. She actually inspired me to major in Youth and Social Innovation. The course is not very difficult and if you are having trouble with anything during the week, Chi is willing to help you out some. The class was a great way to start the week off and I looked forward to it. The guest speakers are amazing and you learn a lot about the world of education and the struggles that many face. I could not recommend a course more than I recommend this one.

I absolutely adored this class. Professor Chi doesn't want to break your GPA, rather the class focuses on grasping the information. There is quite a lot of reading, but you really just need to skim them. As long as you turn your work in on time and try, you should finish with a good grade. This class definitely focuses on the policy side of education, but I think it is a great class for people to take regardless if they are in the School of Education or not.

This class was very fun and interesting! I highly recommend it to everyone, regardless of major. I found the workload very manageable and the assignments were generally interesting. #tcfF25
