Weekly 10 question, open-note homework quizzes with four take-home, closed-note exams comprise your grade. Professor Doney was very knowledgable about the course material, but his lectures were dull and often pretty empty. My only gripe with the course is that there is a large amount of information covered for each exam, and with the lectures being as dense and comprehensive as they are, I found it difficult to study for them. I have heard there used to be six instead of four exams and I think that would be more manageable for students to take. Otherwise, a light course that fulfills the Living Systems discipline.

Pretty simple class, very manageable. Course consists of weekly online homework [10 total] and take-home exams [4 total]. Professor Doney is a kind, very experienced and knows a lot about environmental science. Every lecture, he asked for class participation, and cares a lot about students and the subject. Lectures were sadly pretty empty, but I found it easier to understand topics in-person. Highly suggest if you are needing to fulfill a gen ed or are just wanting a chill-er class!

Very awesome class, extremely easy, recommend taking with friends - all exams were take home and lectures were kind of boring but not required
This class covers a lot of information and is very lecture heavy. Professor Doney is a kind and passionate and seemed to want more student engagement during lectures, but lectures were usually pretty dead. There is a textbook chapter that corresponds with each lecture that can be helpful if there's a concept you don't understand. He posts all his slides so you can review them on your own. The final grade is the average of the 6 unit exams, which are take-home online on Canvas. Some of the questions on the exams are very straightforward but others can get very specific/tricky. He emphasized that he didn't want us to focus on memorizing a bunch of dates and rather focus on understanding the concepts. There are no other assignments so the workload is pretty light, just need to prepare for each exam. As a non-major I didn't find the class very interesting but it's certainly doable.
