I lovedddd this class!!! It sharpens your analytical skills and teaches you to be scrupulous when observing what might seem as a good innovation. The course is broken down into 4 memos which although are hard, they are incredibly helpful for the midterm and the final. The memos are based on an innovation chosen at the beginning with a group of three randomly chosen individuals. Professor Wyckoff is great! sometimes his lectures are a bit dry, but he makes an effort to try to get his point across the best way possible. The memos are another way to asses the techniques learned in class for problem definition, theory of change and evidence review. Not an easy A but with effort you will get it!
I really loved this class! I would highly recommend it to anyone as it exposes you to understanding how social innovations attempt to solve complex problems. It was more work than I anticipated for a 1000 level class but I really enjoyed doing the reading. Professor Wyckoff is very passionate about education and evaluation along with both the TAs in the class Dan and Scott. There are 5 group memos, 1 presentation, an in-class midterm, and a take home final. I found the memos the most challenging but they help develop your writing skills. I ended up with an A in the class and would highly recommend taking this class! You learn a lot and and constantly engaged and challenged by all three teachers
