This course was so so so so good. I learned so much and it really made me change how I see the US and the world. You learn so much history that is often marginalized but so important in seeing the world for what it is. There is reading but its not too bad and its not the end of the world if you don't do ALL of it. I didn't and I got an A. Mostly because the lectures are so good and full of information. Professor Vinson is such a good lecturer and really cares about he is talking about. The novel and graphic novel we read were SO SO good too. I have recommended them to people. Both are written by Black women, it is clear that Professor Vinson makes an effort to include female perspectives in this curriculum.
This class was really enjoyable! The lectures were very interesting and Professor Vinson is a very good speaker. The material is very interesting and prompts really interesting discussions. The readings were all interesting( for the most part) relevant to the class material, and easy to understand. The discussion classes were really helpful for gathering more information and sharing ideas to use for the midterm and final paper.
This class is honestly super laid back and chill simply because it is a very introductory class to all things of the African Diaspora. The reading is never too much because it's usually assigned chapters at a time, but sometimes those chapters do be on the long side, but very manageable. There were no tests or quizzes. Only a midterm which was an essay, and then a final which was also an essay. I recommend this course for sure. #tCFfall2021
The lectures were super duper interesting and the content was something that I enjoyed listening to but he had previously taught at a school where the lectures were less than 30 people and I think that the transition was a little bit difficult. The class had around 180 students in it and sometimes he would try and facilitate a class discussion but it never really went anywhere. The class is super duper easy and our assignments included a 500-word event summer and two 2,000 word essays for the midterm and final. Honestly, the discussions were the hardest part of the class. I honestly have not read anything for the class past the first week and have done really well in discussion and on my midterm using my basic critical race theory knowledge. I would definitely recommend this class to someone that is interested in the content but does not want a really hard class. Plus, Professor Vinson is a super passionate lecturer and makes the lessons interesting.
