These lectures will offer a close reading of the symbolic meaning of food in narrative and the way it intersects with Italian women's socio-cultural history, addressing issues of gender, identity and politics of the body.

This course will cover how the region's cultural production has been shaped by its cultures, peoples, and historical events, the consciousness, memory, and imagination expressed within the region's literature, and how the region's representation has been shaped by who has (and has not) had access to literature.

The purpose of this course is to help the student read and understand poetry in Spanish. By approaching the works of relevant Spanish and Latin American poets from different perspectives, the student will become more familiar with poetry in Spanish. Part of the course is dedicated to introducing the student into the creative mood of literature by doing some poetry translating.
