The first part examines the actors, institutions, and procedures involved in the adoption, implementation, and evaluation of public policy.     This class is an introduction to K'iche', a Maya language spoken by about a million people in the western Highlands of Guatemala; it is one of the major indigenous languages in the Americas. This class aims to make students competent in basic conversation and to introduce students to Maya culture. It is offered as part of the UVa-Duke-Vanderbilt consortium for distance learning in less commonly taught languages.

    The data science project course will allow students to take the knowledge gained in each of the four required courses and apply them to a data driven problem. Students will work in groups and can either choose a project provided by SDS faculty or can propose a project for approval. Upon completion of the course students will be required to present their results and publish project content to an open forum.
