Honestly, this class wasn't that bad, but it was unnecessarily difficult. The concepts were not hard to grasp, but the amount of homework was ridiculous, especially at the beginning of the semester before he reduced the number of problems. For the first half of the semester, problem sets took me anywhere from 4-7 hours. Also, if you are not willing to self-teach, then this is NOT the class for you. GG is really funny and puts in a lot of effort, but his teaching is all over the place and basically impossible to follow. Lots of handwaving. If you want to do well, make sure to read Ryan's Handbook and take good notes, then you can basically space out in class because the lectures are not really useful. That being said, if you have lingering questions after reading the book, GG is pretty helpful at office hours. You just have to ask him specific questions or it will be like you're back in lecture. Overall, the exams aren't bad if you study and make sure you understand the concepts, though the final is definitely harder than the midterms. In terms of grades you should be alright if you commit to putting in the time.
I've found every math class I've taken in college to be relatively easy up to this point. This class was just so unnecessarily difficult and time consuming. The material from class is really not that bad, but the book problems given for homework really have no relation to what's learned in class and are so difficult, especially towards the end of the semester. GG is the man but not necessarily the best teacher. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you have to take it.
