Diana Morris is an excellent teacher. She is very generous with her time for office hours and provides solutions to all assignments/exams - APPRECIATE AND UTILIZE THESE. The class is like high school calculus - easy material and classwork/homework follow notes almost exactly. No textbook. Good and easy class to take as an elective for math major.
Morris is a queen!! I'm generally someone who doesn't do the best in APMAs and has a hard time understanding concepts, but Morris explains things so well. She has her own notes and doesn't teach straight from the textbook, which I liked. Her classwork and homework can be pretty difficult, but if you find a group to work with they aren't that bad. I highly recommend going to her office hours because she'll help you a lot with the classwork/homework and takes the time to explain anything you might be confused about. Her tests aren't the easiest but she makes them straightforward and doesn't try to trick you like some APMA professors do. PDE is more difficult than ODE conceptually, however, for me personally PDE is much easier because Morris teaches it so well. #tCFfall2021
Diana Morris might be the nicest professor at UVA. There was no expensive textbook. She held office hours every day of the week. Furthermore, her lectures were clear and straight-forward. Classwork was easy. The homework was doable if you paid attention in class, and you could go to office hours if you had any difficulty.
To succeed in this class, I would recommend reviewing you notes for ODE. A lot of it fell out of my brain over the summer, so I needed to review. Another tip: work hard on the homework. The exam questions are very similar to the homework questions, so by doing your homework well, you are setting yourself up for success on the exams. I would also carve out a large chunk of time for studying for the final: this class has a lot of material.

Fabulous professor, straightforward class. Prof Morris goes out of her way to make sure you learn the material, and she never makes you feel bad for forgetting simple math. Exams, homework, and classwork were all pretty easy. There were no tricks. I highly recommend this class; it's refreshing to have such an enthusiastic professor.
Professor Morris is the most energetic and encouraging APMA professor I have had. Probably at least partly because of this PDE was my favorite math class I have taken. The whole class was also applied making it easier to understand and visualize. PDEs are also legitimately interesting. Work outside of class consisted of a worksheet due before most classes on the previous class's content and 10ish weeklong homework assignments for the semester.
3 exams + final. It was always clear what content was on the exams but all of the exams felt like there was barely enough time so make sure to work quickly. Second exam was the hardest.
I would take this class (or any class) with Professor Morris if given the opportunity.
