People generally don't go to this class because it is hard to learn from Zhou. English is his second language, which provides an initial barrier, and on top of that the material is pretty boring. You'll do alright if you read the book and take notes from there. Also, "pop-up" quizes are something to worry about
As others have said, Zhou is a very fair teacher. His accent makes it a little hard to understand sometimes, but you'll get used to understanding "measure" when he says "mayor". In comparison with the book, the lectures are structured and organized well. They more or less cover what the book does, but in a more succinct manner. Homeworks can be challenging, but certainly manageable. If you stay on top of the class/material, the quizzes are fine too. Midterms are tricky, but if you put in effort you'll be fine in this class. He's also very accessible at office hours and is willing to help students grasp the content.
Just looking at the name I thought it was going to be awful due to language barrier/accent (don't tell me you guys wouldn't), but he turned out to be a great teacher. Study, go to class, do your homework (don't just cramster it, or you won't learn it) and you'll be fine.
- Midterms were fairly straight forward, (1st one is a lot harder than 2nd)
- Final was pretty much same format..(used 1 or 2 questions from HWs/In-class examples verbatim)
- 7 pop quizzes every now and then (2 lowest dropped)
- 12 HW assignments (2 lowest dropped)
