Winston Lung is a pretty nice guy, but not the best teacher. Kind of rambles, and the whole class stays unengaged. The accent isn't a deterrent, but his lectures themselves didn't seem to teach the core concepts of what you're learning.
5 quizzes - these quizzes are harder than Winston makes them out to be. Mess up one quiz, and it's going to be tough to get back in there.
What killed this class was how harshly the homework was graded. I'm still not sure if it was just Winston's section - but the homeworks were brutal. You could literally ask the TA for all of the correct answers, and get back a mediocre homework grade. 7.3/10, 5.7/7, 15.6/20 - like where are you getting these numbers?
Just to well on the tests (there were 2 for my semester), which are not that bad, and you'll be fine. However, if you have the option to take it with Abramenko or Morris, take it with them.
Professor Lung is like a George Takei with a Chinese accent. He'll draw out his thoughts and periodically make sure the class is paying attention with an inquiring, "huh?" I found it endearing, but it seemed to have no effect on anyone else.
Despite this, lectures were mostly dry and much more example driven than theory driven. It seems like you get one or the other in APMA courses. Lung will introduce a concept, maybe a theorem or two then go into examples. This can be helpful, but only if you are on top of the fundamentals, which can initially be hard to grasp.
The book is immensely helpful for this. Read it if you'd like to do well or if you fall behind.
Homework was at times quite challenging to be honest. There are decent office hours, but I got some not-so-decent scores (although both sections assign mostly the same problems)
I didn't find his quizzes too difficult, but there are only 5 of them so there's not much room for error. Tests were tests, also included some theorem based true/false questions. Practice tests were helpful.
Overall, I have heard Abramenko is better, but if you put forth some effort in reading the book, Lung isn't all that bad. Don't be so discouraged from taking his class.
