I would not recommend taking this class with this Professor if you can. There are usually better professors like Ma, Li, and Abramenko who usually teach in the fall. That being said, he is a meh lecturer. A lot of the lecture is fluff that can be easily learnt on your own in less time. He is okay at answering questions but he only has office hours one hour per week and there is only a grad TA in the course which is annoying because there aren’t many ways of getting help in the class. I found this class to be the easiest APMA class I’ve taken so far but it still wasn’t easy. He does hold review sessions before the exams which is nice. Overall, I would recommend getting another Professor but if you get stuck with him, you should still be okay because he can still get the job done.
This class is easier for some than for others. If you can think logically, Linear Algebra will not only come easy to you but will also show you how useful it can be in other disciplines. Pindera does a good job trying to explain these concepts. But if you don't get what he lectured or have to catch up in the class, the textbook is an excellent resource to refer to and self study from. Keep in mind that all the professors use the same exams; I think each professor has their pros and cons. In my opinion, you should take Pindera for traditional lecturing and cooperative atmosphere and Abremenko for clear and guided lecture notes. I don't know much about the other professors. You should actually do the Webwork and the written HW. It's alot of work, but it's worth doing and reviewing for the exams. The exams are fair and are about the same difficulty as the homeworks. I got an A and I think it is attainable as long as you put in the approriate effort. Just work hard and I do not think there should be any complaints about your grades in the class. All in all, I enjoyed what I learned in this class.
While the course is fairly straightforward, the Pindera is not a great teacher at all. The math is easy and if you're good about self-teaching, you've got the A. Not quite a bs class, but not something you stay up stressing over. There are two midterms and one final. Do well on the homework and webwork, study for the quizzes, and the exams shouldn't challenge you.
Pindera can be funny sometimes, and he's a good guy who wants to help you learn the material. If you pay attention during lectures, quizzes and tests will come easy to you. Webwork is useful in learning material, but never seems to be directly covered on anything. Book homework is useless, but matters grade-wise. Pindera touts a strict attendance policy, but who knows how much he actually factors that into grading. My only real complaint is that he was not clear about how he would calculate final grades, e.g. how many homework sets he'd drop, or how many Webwork points we need to get. For example, the other section (taught by Abramenko) only had to get 100 Webwork points for full credit.
